International Marriage Broker Act of 2005

The International Marriage Broker Act of 2005 law was signed on January of 2006 by President Bush and its purpose is to provide for certain protections for individuals who utilize the services of international introductions services. The new law requirements will not have a major effect on the services provided by Latin American Introduductions (LAI) because LAI has always made an effort to provide a safe and secure environment for both the men and women that join our service . Latin American Introductions HAS NEVER sold contact information such as physical addresses, telephone numbers or email addresses to clients that have not gone through a membership process. Since 1996 LAI has been requesting personal background information from both the men and women that join our service prior to establishing contact with the other sex, and this is one of the reasons that LAI is so highly respected both in Colombia and the US.

Latin American Introductions respects your privacy, and your information will not be shared with anyone other than the women you are seeking to contact. Please take a minute to read our privacy policy.

Not only are you dealing with companies that are operating out of the law, but also facing personal consequences such as your fiance visa and spousal visa applications not being approved.

  • We do not profile under any circumstance foreign clients under the age of 18;
  • Before releasing the contact information of any foreign client to any U.S. client we (1) conduct a search of federal and state public sex offender registries for information on the US client; (2) provide the women with a copy of the results of that search as well as further criminal and marital background information that we have collected directly from the U.S. client; (3) advise our foreign clients of the rights and resources available to domestic violence victims in the U.S.; and (4) obtain our foreign client written consent to the release of her contact information to that specific U.S. client
  • We require that the criminal background check information that the Department of Homeland Security already collects on US Clients petitioning for a foreign fiancée or spousal visa be shared with the foreign fiancée or spouse
  • We require foreign clients and foreign spouses coming to the U.S. be given an informational pamphlet reviewing the rights and resources available to domestic violence victims in the U.S.
  • LAI Informs our US Clients that is is not permitted to simultaneously seek visas for multiple fiancées and there exists a limit in the number of fiancée visas per U.S. petitioner per time period.

The purpose and intent behind this law is very honorable. However, there are many questions regarding the effectiveness of this new law and concerns regarding possible violations of US Client's constitutional rights. If you wish to voice your concerns or disagree with the new law, you can use this link to petition have the IMBRA law revised and/or repealed.
